The Department of Operations Management, Faculty of Management, successfully organized a field visit to Colombo West International Terminal (Pvt) Ltd on July 30, 2025, for final-year undergraduates specializing in Operations Management. The visit was an integral component of the OPM 4101: Business Process Analysis and Designing course aimed at bridging theoretical knowledge with practical industry exposure.
The visit was designed to offer students invaluable insights into port operations, logistics, cargo handling, and digital transformation in the maritime sector. Industry experts explained the end-to-end processes at CWIT, emphasizing efficiency in container handling, vessel scheduling, and coordination with global supply chains. Students had the opportunity to observe advanced equipment and workflows for loading/unloading cargo in the yard, alongside safety practices.
The department extends its heartfelt gratitude to CWIT for providing this opportunity for the undergraduates to observe and experience real-world operations.
