Knowledge Sharing Session on Taxation Department of Business Finance

The Department of Business Finance, Faculty of Management , University of Peradeniya, organized a knowledge sharing session for the second , third and final year undergraduates of the department on June 17th 2025 from 01.00 p.m. to 03.00 p.m. at the faculty auditorium. This session was conducted in collaboration with the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Sri Lanka, with the valuable participation of Mr. Ranil Abeywardhene, President of the Council of the Chartered Institute of Taxation, and Ms. Mekhala Avanthi, Lecturer and Fellow Member of the Institute, who served as the distinguished resource persons.

The primary purpose of this session was to strengthen the students foundational understanding of taxation while fostering academic-industry engagement. It aimed to equip students with essential knowledge on the structure and functioning of the tax system in Sri Lanka, including the various types of taxes in operation. In addition, the session provided critical insights into the most recent amendments to tax statutes, with a particular focus on individual income tax. Through this interactive and informative session, students gained practical awareness of the evolving tax landscape, thereby enhancing their readiness for real-world financial and regulatory environments.
